BYT Homeschooling

Bespoke homeschooling programmes that put your child’s education first

At Bright Young Things, we understand that students sometimes fail to thrive in traditional school settings but that the alternative – homeschooling – can be difficult for parents and students alike. This article will examine these issues and highlight how BYT can help students reach their full potential.

Why are more and more children being homeschooled?

The number of children being homeschooled has risen by over 40% in the last three years. It’s clear why. Even in top private schools, school classrooms are packed with over 25 students so teachers are unable to meet all their demands. Inevitably, some students struggle to keep up whilst others get bored; this can lead to demoralisation and complacency respectively. Homeschooling allows students to move away from the classroom-based model of learning to one centred around personalised education. This means that you can go at the student’s pace. Furthermore, students can write their own timetables: they can work at times most suited to them, choose the texts and languages that most interest them and ask the questions which are most relevant to them. It’s beneficial for parents too: no more school runs at rush hour, no more planning around school holidays and more active involvement in their child’s education.

Challenges faced my parents and students

Homeschooling is not easy. It can be difficult to organise a day: both over scheduling and under scheduling can prove to be disastrous. There is also the pressure of keeping up to date with constantly changing national curricula to prevent children from falling behind. As children get older, there are further worries about choosing an exam board, enrolling for exams and the UCAS process. The fact that a parent might get funny looks, personal questions and even outright disapproval from other people can make the whole process even more stressful.

How can Bright Young Things help you?

At Bright Young Things, we offer bespoke homeschooling packages designed to suit the full spectrum of your child’s academic and extra-curricular needs. We offer both a supplementary and full homeschooling service. We initially meet to discuss your child’s situation, strengths, weaknesses and requirements before creating a Homeschooling Pack which includes a comprehensive plan of the schooling year and your child’s proposed timetable. Each programme is designed in conjunction with you to ensure that your child’s needs are directly addressed. Our experience and knowledge of the education system has already proved invaluable for the many families we’ve worked with in London and further afield. Our tutors are also experienced in working with pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia and ADHD.
