Success in Secondary!

The importance of secondary school education to children is a never ending list. Students start to learn new skills which are not only academic but are vital for life. They become more independent and begin their transition from compulsory education to the start of a wider career path. The school work focus also shifts to reflect this change with research skills, discussion pieces and essay writing abilities becoming essential to get ahead.

Although this change is necessary for the development of young people, this jump can all too often be difficult for students. This difficulty is reflected in research found by Ofsted inspectors; the results state that pupils frequently leave primary school with a good standard of both literacy and numeracy skills but progress regularly stalls when they reach secondary school.

Additionally, the prospect of changing educational practices can be overwhelming for those in year 6 making the move from primary to secondary school. Along with having to change schools and make new friends, students face new subjects and a huge jump in the level of work expected. Research has shown the children habitually worry about their ability to do the work in both old and new subjects and are concerned the expectations of their new teachers are too hard to reach. These worries can affect the already nerve-wracking transition from primary to secondary.

To help make the transition from primary to secondary school as smooth as possible, Bright Young Things in Harrow has developed an educational course designed to ease some of these worries. We are introducing Success in Secondary! Our qualified and experienced tutors will be available to help students to develop the skills needed for secondary education and ensure they continue to progress in both Maths and English.

Enrolment can be made at any time during the academic year and would be perfect for those just finishing 11+ to prepare for the new school year ahead.
