Malachy Guinness

Founder & Director

Malachy graduated from Christ Church, Oxford with a degree in Biological Sciences before co-founding Bright Young Things. Having had an excellent tutor as a child who introduced him to new ideas and exciting potentials, Malachy understands the real benefits of having a brilliant tutor. Malachy continues to have a hands-on approach to running the business and remains focused on expanding the business through the establishment of our tuition centres. He also works with a number of technology partners to develop tutoring management software.

Founder & Director

Woody and Malachy first teamed up in 2008 and Bright Young Things was born. With a strong interest in education and an enthusiastic approach to teaching and learning, Woody has dedicated his time and energy to creating a dynamic and focused enterprise with a committed workforce. Today, Woody splits his time between the agency and the centres, overseeing operations and managing marketing and PR.

Sofia Carlson

Director, Bright Young Things St Albans

Sofia Carlson-Haynes grew up in Finland but moved to London to study for her undergraduate degree. She attended City University and graduated with a first class degree in Sociology with Psychology. Wanting to pursue her passion for gender equality she then went on to study for an MA in Gender, Society and Representation at UCL, graduating in 2011. From that point she started working in the education sector, managing tutor placements and home schooling arrangements in London and overseas for the Bright Young Things head office before opening her centre in St Albans a few years later. Sofia is passionate about providing an individually tailored and focused learning experience for students attending Bright Young Things St Albans. She employs a fantastic team of tutors and managers who together work hard to ensure every child gets the best possible tutoring experience and reaches their potential.

Elizabeth Mills

Managing Director

Elizabeth is responsible for managing the agency’s performance. She leads the London team and oversees the day-to-day operations of Bright Young Things Tuition. Elizabeth works closely with our families to ensure that parents and children are happy and that each placement is a success. She also supervises all tutor recruitment, partnerships, business growth and performance.. With excellent organisational skills, she has quickly established a good relationship with parents, students and tutors and helps us constantly deliver the very best service to all of our clients.

Stephanie Richardson

Director of Operations

Our Director of Operations, Stephanie, was formerly an instructor therapist at the Etobicoke Children’s Centre in Toronto, Canada. She has extensive experience tutoring, teaching children with autism and managing tuition centres of a similar model to Bright Young Things. She graduated from Queen’s University in Canada in April 2012, where she was placed on the Dean’s Honour List for exemplary academic achievement, with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology. Stephanie successfully completed an Honours Thesis entitled “Context-Based Prediction of Degraded Speech” whilst working in Queen’s Cognitive Neuroscience of Communication and Hearing Lab. Stephanie joined Bright Young Things in 2017 as a Centre Director, before taking on the Director of Operations role in early 2018.

Emma Griffin

Director of Performance and Development

Emma joined the team as Director of Performance and Development at Bright Young Things the autumn of 2018. Her passion has always been to work within the education sector to help others realise their true potential. This led her to work at a school with SEN pupils, she then went on to become Assistant Director at an education centre for two years and a Centre Director for three years. Emma passionately believes that all members of the BYT team create an enjoyable learning environment where members can build confidence and thrive academically.
