We recommend that all students sit an assessment with us as it provides an excellent baseline of the student’s abilities across the curriculum for their year group. It is especially helpful when a student is working below or above their academic year, or when parents have any concerns about specific topics or concepts. Assessments are available to students beginning in reception.
Assessments last for one hour, and consist of 30 minutes of maths work and 30 minutes of English. Our assessments are of a high academic level because we want to challenge our students. We will always make sure your child feels supported and gets to experience the benefits of the centre and working with our tutors!
Afterwards, we will provide feedback on how the student has performed , and where their strengths and weaknesses lie across all topics in maths and English for their school year. For current members, we recommend having your child sit a new assessment at the beginning or end of the school year. This helps us the gauge the progress your student has made with us and target any areas that the student needs to improve on.
During your child’s free trial lesson, (s)he will have the opportunity to try out one of our maths, English, or science classes. Classes are available for students in school years 4 and above.
A good time to undertake a trial lesson is when students have recently been given feedback from school, meaning that you already have a clear picture of your child’s academic abilities. However, we welcome students at all times in the academic year.
Trial lessons are also ideal for students who are unsure of how they will enjoy the centre. We are confident that we can persuade even the most shy or unconfident student of how much they will love our fun and engaging tutors and classes!
After your free trial or assessment, your centre director will meet with you to review how the lesson has gone, and to explain more about membership and go through registration. From there, you can start immediately! We recommend parents attending their trial with intention of registering right away, as our classes can fill up quickly and we cannot reserve a spot without registration being completed.
