Matching You With an Oxbridge Graduate Tutor

We pride ourselves on the calibre of tutors we provide. With an extensive portfolio of Oxbridge graduates, we are able to provide a highly personalised service, matching students with tutors who can best support their needs. Over the years, we’ve observed how successful candidates are those who display a genuine passion for their subject, have explored it and are able to discuss it on an academic level, both with their peers and their tutors. At Bright Young Things, many of our tutors are Oxbridge graduates themselves and are able to inspire passion and intuitiveness in students going through the application process.

One-to-one Tutoring

Our most intensive Oxbridge preparation course is bespoke, designed around each individual candidate to work on any weak areas. This personalised service prepares candidates for the Oxbridge tutorial system in which they will face discussions on a one-to-one level with their supervisor. Whether at home, at one of our centres or over Skype, our one-to-one consultations are the first step to building an outstanding application.

You may choose to work on refining your personal statement, discuss the different courses or explore the various colleges. You may also wish to stretch yourself beyond the Sixth Form syllabus with academic tuition designed to make you truly think. As the application process gets underway, we also offer one-to-one interview practice with Oxbridge graduates who have studied your subject. Our Oxbridge programme provides insight into the whole process, from start to finish.

Our tutors are also always happy to answer any questions and concerns that either you or your parents may have about the application process, and discuss any further support that you may want in the build-up to applying.

Interview Prep

‘Here’s a cactus. Tell me about it.’ – Biological Sciences

‘The bench is long. What does this mean?’ – Linguistics

‘Why did Henry VIII call his son Arthur?’ – History

‘Can a thermostat think?’ – Psychological and Behavioural Studies

‘Compare these bottles of Tesco and Timotei shampoo.’ – Law

We’ve all heard the apocryphal tales of candidates being asked to tell jokes, answer the same questions multiple times and what may seem at face value to be very odd interview questions. However, the interviews aren’t supposed to trick you or catch you out, they are aiming to challenge you by encouraging individual thought. The Admissions Tutors are looking for candidates who can develop a coherent argument in response to a question which may have caught them off-guard, highlighting that they can think on their feet and that they show potential for wider understanding of the issues involved.

Here at Bright Young Things we aim to prepare you so that when faced with such questions, you will take them in your stride to maximise chances of success and ensure that it is your potential and aptitude for the subject which is being assessed on the day, not the ability to deal with a stressful situation. If you learn a stock-pile of answers to such questions, however, you will be left disappointed. Admissions Tutors want to see a unique, interested and thoughtful approach to such questions which is why Bright Young Things aims to prepare you for every eventuality not just to spoon-feed you a response, but to teach you to think intuitively so you will be able to cope with any question thrown at you on the day.

APTITUDE TEST PREP

LNAT… HAT… BMAT… ELAT… TSA…

When applying to Oxbridge, more than 70% of courses require candidates to sit an aptitude test as part of the application process. Your score on this entry test can determine whether you are invited for interview – and, ultimately, if you receive an offer.

Given the competition for places, it is more important than ever that you understand what is entailed for each test, prepare for them extensively and, consequently, excel in them in order to demonstrate your full capabilities.

Bright Young Things is well-acquainted with the plethora of entry tests which candidates are required to sit during the Oxbridge application process and our tutors are on-hand to help you through them. Our tutors are knowledgeable in what is needed for each course and are always on hand to answer any queries you may have on the entry tests. Bright Young Things is able to provide expert advice, academic support and useful strategies to help guide candidates through the entry tests to maximise their chances of securing a place at these elite institutions.
